Position Overview
The Squarespace Developer manages the design, functionality, and technical health of the label’s Squarespace websites, including artist and label sites. This part-time, freelance/subcontractor role handles everything from visual design updates to code injection and DNS-level configuration. The position is part of the Creative Department and reports to the VP of Creative.
Primary Functions
- Build, update, and maintain label and artist websites on Squarespace, translating established branding and creative direction into functional web layouts that support current release cycles
- Implement custom code injection (CSS/JavaScript/HTML) to extend Squarespace functionality beyond native templates
- Configure and maintain third-party integrations, including Bandsintown, CRM/signup forms, analytics, pixels, embedded media, and other marketing tools.
- Manage DNS records, domain connections, and other backend/technical site settings
- Coordinate with the creative team on layout, imagery, and asset placement for new releases
- Troubleshoot site issues (broken links, plugin/integration errors, performance, mobile responsiveness) as they arise
- Communicate weekly with the creative team on artist web updates
- Monitor site security, uptime, and basic SEO health across all properties
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience building, maintaining, and managing multiple Squarespace websites simultaneously
- Demonstrated experience with code injection (custom CSS/JavaScript/HTML) on Squarespace
- Working knowledge of DNS management and domain configuration
Skills
- Proven proficiency with Squarespace’s platform, including its design and developer tools
- Comfortable writing and troubleshooting HTML, CSS, and JavaScript within Squarespace’s code injection framework
- Experience with domain registrars and DNS settings (A records, CNAME, MX, etc.)
- Working knowledge of SEO best practices
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to learn new platforms, integrations, and technical workflows as needed
- Proven ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with colleagues and clients
- Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail
- Must be able to work independently under tight deadlines
- Must possess the skill to set priorities and problem solve
Position Details
• Status: Part-time, freelance / subcontractor
• Compensation: $40–$50/hour, commensurate with experience
• Hours: Approximately 20-40 hours per month, variable based on release schedule
• Location: Remote
